Why Writing?

Hi friends!

Being a writer has always been a part of my identity ever since I can remember. My first "book" was about a girl who could talk to animals (I was obsessed with Eliza Thornberry in grade school). Initially, I thought my love for writing would lead me to be a journalist. After all, it seemed like a responsible way to use my writing to make a living. I was a fairly logical child and didn't want anything to do with that starving artist stereotype.

And after reading By Lizzie by Mary Eccles and seeing How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, I had my mind set on being a journalist for National Geographic.

That dream didn't exactly pan out. After a stressful junior year of high school that had me dropping my journalism class, I knew journalism wasn't for me. But then my senior year of high school I took a creative writing class. And that love for writing called to me again like a siren.

Long story short, I graduated with an English degree from Xavier Univeristy. That seemed to appease my logical and creative sides. And then I got a job.

So, I'd like to say that I absolutely adore my day job. I got really stinkin' lucky with my first job out of college. I get to work with artwork, home decor, and a bunch of creative people. It's a privilege to go to work every day for such a cool company.

But if you're a writer like me, you know that once you get an idea for a story in your head, you have to write it. And after not really feeding my need to write for a few years, the words just poured out of me with my first book. And after finishing that novel, I was hooked. Writing is more than just a hobby for me. Writing is my passion and I sincerely think it is my purpose for being on this world if you believe in that kind of stuff.

I'm not published yet. I don't think my current work in progress is anywhere close to being done yet. I may not be the best writer out there or even close to being all that good yet. The key word is yet.

Over the past few years while I've been pursuing this writing passion, I've learned a thing or two about the writing and the publishing industry so I started this section of my blog to share what I've learned and take you along on this journey while I continue to learn more. I always love it when authors and fellow writers I follow on social media share their insights into the writing and publishing world, so I thought why not share what I know too?!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Hope to see you around here sometime soon!

Taylor
